Life has lots of options, activities and experiences. There are SO many career options to explore and a plethora of roads to investigate. How do you begin to explore without anxiety and then make the right choice?
Push pause for a second … I have 20+ years working in education circles. As a college Professor, I have listened to hundreds of students question their career field and the classes they are taking. I have watched many of them get discouraged and lose the drive to finish their education in the process. It is so important to complete some aptitude testing prior to choosing a career. It feels great to choose a plan of study that is a perfect fit for you. Why not love what you do every day?
I was born in Columbia, Missouri because my father was the first in his family to go to a University (MU in this case). He became a successful, practicing veterinarian, working with both large and small animals. I grew up on a small farm in Kansas City, working with lots of critters. After high school, I went to MU, but it wasn’t a good fit for me. I returned to Kansas City and got my Associate in Arts from Longview Community College. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from DeVry University, and then my Master of Arts in Teaching from Webster University and finally my Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Saint Louis University. I am professionally certified to administer and interpret the Highlands Ability Battery.
My handsome husband, Todd, and I met getting our undergraduate degrees, married in 1985, and are the parents of three brilliantly unique individuals. My husband is a Chiropractic Physician with post graduate degrees in Acupuncture, Sports Medicine and Functional Neurology. We have an amazing 30-year-old son who has lots of college experience but is now happily working on a Journeyman certification with the Iron Workers union. He is married and his beautiful bride has her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Counseling. They have a son, a daughter and are in the process of adopting siblings. Our beautiful 28-year-old daughter graduated from college with a major in music and a minor in business. She is married to an amazing man who is learning about career transitions and the importance of finding the right fit for work, faith and values. They are expecting their first child. Our beautiful 23-year-old daughter graduated from college with a degree in Exercise Physiology and now is working as a medical assistant in a vein clinic. She is currently exploring directions for her post graduate education.
I am passionate about learning and placing people in the educational culture that is best for them based on their unique design. It is important to have an advocate who can help to use all the pieces of the whole person puzzle to create that best fit placement. This requires looking in depth at the combination of abilities and other influences that shape and define who you are: abilities, skills, interests, personal style, family, values, goals and career development cycle.
I look forward to talking with you soon to see how I can partner with you to help you succeed with a high level of confidence and a lower level of stress.
